We are an in-home private preschool located in Northeast Tallahassee, FL.
--Respect for the child--
Dr. Maria Montessori believed children should be respected. Respect is shown by not interrupting children's concentration, allowing freedom to make choices, and to learn and do things for themselves. The teacher's role is to model respect for all students and peaceful conflict resolution.
--The Absorbent Mind--
Children are continually learning from the world around them through all five senses just by simply having a desire to explore and experiment.
--Sensitive Periods--
Dr. Montessori believed there are certain periods during which children are more ready to learn certain skills. Known as sensitive periods, they only last long enough for the child to acquire the necessary skills. The order and timing of each sensitive period depends on the individual child. It is the Montessori educator's job to observe and provide necessary resources and lessons to blossom during these times.
--The Prepared Environment--
The Montessori method believes that children learn best in an environment that is prepared to promote freedom for children to explore and learn through materials of their choice. The learning environment is prepared in an orderly, child-centered way.
--Auto Education--
Auto Education is the concept that children are capable of educating themselves. Montessori teachers provide the environment, the inspiration, the guidance and the encouragement for children to educate themselves, which is when real learning takes place.
At Rooted Oaks, we are committed to implementing the Montessori method of education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, which is a child-centered, developmentally-based approach to education. Dr. Montessori strongly believed that a peaceful world will come from a new way of education that focused on teaching compassion and connection to all living things. She was convinced that it was the school's responsibility to meet each individual student's developmental needs. The Montessori method focuses on learning through all five senses and immersion in nature. Spending time in nature ignites students' curiosity and sparks engagement. Children thrive learning about nature and through nature, helping them to learn about themselves, their peers, and the world around them. We pride ourselves on celebrating diversity and inclusivity. At Rooted Oaks, we strive to give high-quality Montessori education in an in-home setting to create a genuine family feel.

Learn about nature while developing communication skills, creativity, and confidence in self. Growing Up WILD is an early childhood education curriculum that builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Through a wide range of activities and experiences, Growing Up WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about the natural world and lifelong social and academic skills.
"One of Kristin’s best qualities in teaching is her attention to detail and intuition on each child’s needs. She always has several different ways to approach a subject or skill depending on the child and not only their ability, but also their attitude/mood that day. We all know how temperamental kids this age can be. Her patience with children in this age group is unlike anything I have ever seen."
- Angela B.
"Mrs. Campion is truly a blessing for the children and staff. Her students excelled in all academic areas as a result of strong engagement and the quality instruction she provided. I have yet to discover a teacher like Mrs. Campion who grasps the needs of ESE students and has what it takes to meet them all." -Sally S.
